Film and TV actor Paul Butterworth was brought up in a small village in Yorkshire, his dad was a vicar and his mum a drama teacher.
At 18 he headed off to the Central School of Speech and Drama in London graduating in 1977 as a drama teacher. However, over my three years in London (including playing one of the soldiers in Sleeping Beauty with Rudolph Nureyev) he discovered his passion for acting. From Central he went straight into children's theatre, the Leicester Haymarket, Doncaster Arts Cooperative, and then the Royal Exchange in Manchester clocking up 52 weeks fully paid Equity theatre work to qualify him for his full Equity card which meant he was then eligible for TV and film work. His first TV role in 1979 was in Coronation Street. Since then he has worked continuously in film and TV for numerous companies including the BBC, Yorkshire TV and Granada including Barry in The Full Monty and Richard in Allelujah (directed by Richard Eyres).
Filmed in 2024: 1) Mr Jarvis in Anemone directed by Ronan Day-Lewis and starring Daniel Day-Lewis.
2) Colin (the office manager) in Temp Diaries directed by Fabia Martin - TV comedy pilot.
