Paul Butterworth - Film & Television Actor

A Native Yorkshireman • An Hour from London
A native Yorkshireman, I'm a British film and television actor based in Cambridge, around an hour from London, with a career spanning more than five decades.
My screen work includes Barry in The Full Monty, Michael Ellacott in Strike, Richard in Allelujah, and most recently Mr Jarvis in Anemone, directed by Ronan Day-Lewis, opposite Samantha Morton.
I trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (1974–77) on the Teaching course and later completed a part-time BA in Combined Studies at Leeds Beckett University (1988).
Alongside acting, I completed a part-time BA (Hons) in Painting at the University for the Creative Arts in 2024.
Full BAFTA voting member.
Reflections on a Career in Acting
In a recent conversation with Cambridge Chronicles, I reflected on a career spanning film and television, from The Full Monty to Strike and Allelujah. We discussed longevity in the profession, approaching small roles with the same commitment as larger ones, the realities of work being cut from the final edit, and balancing acting with a parallel life as an artist.
A short extract from that conversation is included below.
