Website for Paul Butterworth Actor:
I was brought up in a small village in Yorkshire, my dad was a vicar and my mum a drama teacher.
At 18 I headed off to the Central School of Speech and Drama in London graduating in 1977 as a drama teacher. However, over my three years in London (including playing one of soldiers in Sleeping Beauty with Rudolph Nureyev) I discovered my passion for acting. From Central I went into children's theatre, the Leicester Haymarket, community theatre, and then the Royal Exchange in Manchester clocking up my 52 weeks Equity work before my first TV role in 1978 in Coronation Street. I have worked continuously ever since for the BBC, Yorkshire TV and Granada, and in films such as The Full Monty and Allelujah.
I’m skilled at drama comedy and anything northern.
I am a full voting BAFTA member.
I also hold a BA in English and History from Leeds Beckett University (1988) and graduated on 12th July 2024 from the University for the Creative Arts with a BA (Hons) Painting 2:1
I've just been long-listed for the Beep Painting Biennial. If you want to see what my painting looks like head over to my art website: www.paulbuttertworthartist.com
